Pear Meditations
This is the pinnacle of early pw. The last teaming between myself, Sheri and John Purvis, this CD would leave an impression on many people. It got radio play on 98 Rock and 99.1 WHFS, it led to the formation of the Baltimore band lowell, it was charted in CMJ and tracks were on heavy rotation at Western Maryland College and UMBC. north sea somewhere was even a discussion topic for an hour at one of our famous ‘GDT’s’ at UMBC. All this from the humble idea that I would just drive to John’s house on lazy afternoons and slowly piece a small album together before he left for Pittsburgh. We had a cast of characters help on this mammoth: Dan Sereduick programmed drums on a track—and he would later extend his DJ career because of it. Matthew Crum did background vocals and would later become lowell’s first bassist. John and Valdon produced even lost a complete song that was supposed to go on the album. That song was lost forever because we could not reproduce it. Some people from England stopped into the sessions and gave advice about production. I would have to play John Galt at every musical get-together afterwards. Rick Janney did some artwork and so did John Tucker before he left for Florida. Thanks to Johns Hopkins, I was able to make up samples of Wittgenstein during my internship. A whole photo session was done in the heat and a girl named Jamie wrote me about the album. We had a time and a family that will live beyond our immediate perceptions, and this was our last family portrait.
